Education of Business Online from NCSU Best Internet Marketing ...

You most likely have heard many of the buzzwords of internet marketing i.e. SEO (Search Engine Optimization), PPC (Pay per Click), SMO (Social Media Optimization), Affiliate Marketing, Email Marketing and more.? But what is the Best Internet Marketing ? One of the above, some of the above, all of the above or none of the above?

First you must understand some basic realities online:

The searcher (buyer) initiates everything online using textual input in the form of keywords / phrases that is felt to be the most relevant for what they are seeking.? The website initiates nothing; rather wishing to be found by the right searchers.
There are over 250 million searches a day on google.com.
Facebook is the 2nd most frequented site on the Internet and now claims 500 million users and a high degree of time on the site.100 million unique users engage with YouTube every month.
Online businesses seeking success online must devote their resources to being found easily on Google, Facebook, YouTube and several additional sites by the right people and at the right time.

Being found means being visible in all the right places.? For Google and the other major search engines this means page 1 for relevant keywords / phrases ? either organically (non-paid listings) or through ads usually involving PPC.? Organic listings are much more difficult to achieve because they are earned by successfully competing through convincing Google et al that there site is the most relevant or highly relevant.? Search Engine Advertising provides businesses with ?easier to achieve? page one visibility but this is restricted to the Sponsored Search section of a SERP (Search Engine Results Page).

SEO focuses entirely on driving organic traffic from the search engines and other websites including the social media to relevant content on the website or blog.? SEO literally involves 100s of inter-related, integrated steps and processes to maximize the relevancy on a keyword specific basis.? The processes can mainly be divided into 2 main tracks:

Onsite Optimization ? on page settings including titles,? meta information, W3 Validation, Dynamic Site Maps and loads of regularly added new content in the form of articles, press releases and more.
Offsite Optimization ? the optimization and syndication of great content to promote the generation of high quality and quantities of highly relevant, naturally occurring backlinks.? High quality backlink growth is the sole focus of offsite optimization.? There is nothing more important than great backlinks to generate page 1 results on the search engines.

The cornerstone of all internet marketing is keyword / topic research.? No one knows the universe of the keywords and phrases being used online to find a website until and unless extensive, exhaustive keyword research is conducted.? In addition, keyword research is not a onetime chapter in internet marketing.? It is a continuous process because the trends in search words and phrases and their associated search volumes change with time; sometimes rapidly.? You cannot decide to target a keyword for SEO or PPC without the full knowledge that the keyword is being searched in enough volume to justify the time and expense of promoting it.

PPC is the main true advertising medium online.? It extends to the search engines as in Google?s AdWords program to Facebook?s growing PPC presence.? While Google AdWords is again keyword based, Facebook PPC is focused on Facebook criteria i.e.

fans, likes, dislikes, etc.? Facebook, although still in its ?PPC infancy,? offers some potential advantages by offering advertisers to not only target keywords, but also to target members preferences based on information in their profiles.? So, an avid New York Giants fan would be more likely to see an ad for a sports event than a member who is in to classical music.? Remember ? it?s about being found by the right people and the right time.

What is the best internet marketing? ? Being found on the major sites, for the right reasons and at the right time.? This means Search Engine Optimization, PPC Management in both the major search engines and on the Social Media.? We write about all of these areas much more extensively throughout our website; it?s a resource ? use it!

If you seek the best internet marketing strategy using only white hat processes, contact us.? We will be happy to help ? and the initial consultation is free!

Italy's Molfetta wins heavyweight taekwondo gold, Gabon silver

Carlo Molfetta won the men's over-80kg taekwondo title as beaten finalist Anthony Obame of Gabon became his country's first ever Olympic medallist on Saturday.

Italian Molfetta claimed a judges' decision after the fighters were locked at 9-9 even following a sudden death period of golden point.

Cuba's Robelis Despaigne won the first bronze after twice world champion Dada Modibo Keita of Mali pulled out of their medal bout with cruciate ligament damage.

China's Liu Xiaobo upset three-time world champion Bahri Tanrikulu of Turkey 3-2 courtesy of a three-point head kick in the first round to take the second bronze.

Molfetta may be the new champion but there is no doubt it was Obame who touched the hearts of everyone inside the ExCel Arena.

And he could not have come any closer to winning the gold medal.

Leading 9-6 with little time left he seemed to be overcome by nerves and stopped attacking.

Molfetta caught him with a three-point kick to the head to level up the scores and was then the more aggressive during the extra period of golden point.

Yet Obame's achievement was still much the greater.

His unlikely run to the final began with a 7-2 defeat of Samoa's Kaino Thomsen-Fuataga in the first round.

And after drawing 6-6 with Robelis Despaigne of Cuba he snatched the victory with a golden.

In the semi-final he stunned Tanrikulu with a last-second kick for a narrow 3-2 win.

He trailed Tanrikulu, the silver medallist in Athens eight years ago, by two points at the end of the first round but a point in the second and another in the third levelled matters before his last-gasp winning kick.

There was also heartache for Keita who missed out winning Mali's first ever Olympic medal.

He lost 6-4 to Molfetta in the semi-final and picked up an injury that kept him from fighting for bronze.

Learn PPC: One of the Best Internet Marketing Tools | Internet ...

?

By David Wong

For business owners, PPC or pay per click marketing is one of the most useful and effective online tools. It is now one of the different methods that help an online business gain more customers and increase their profit. You can also enroll in a PPC program without owning a website but it is quite advisable for those who own a business and have an online store for a lot of beneficial reasons. Trying to learn PPC can really be overwhelming at first but once you get a hold of it, it can be a great asset. You should start gathering all the information you can on how you can get started with your pay per click campaign. You can?t just jump into the bandwagon just because everyone?s doing it and are getting positive results. You need to know the ins and outs of PPC first. Not knowing what to do or even if you don?t have enough information to proceed, you could lose a great deal of money is just a short period of time. There are rules that you should follow and these are effective ways as well to help your online business succeed.

Once you decide to earn money through PPC, you need to have a conviction that you will be persistent on this. You can sign up with your PPC campaign like the Google Adwords and other PPC marketing ads. You need also to know which websites you are going to choose in order to link to your advertisements. You need to do a lot of keyword research, find out the popular keywords that users search on the internet albeit not yet that competitive, and you need to bid on them. You need to set your parameters on your keywords such as the length of each campaign, the cost per ad, the profit per click and other important details. You also need to think about the title of your ads and the contents. In the title, you should make sure to include your keyword and in the body. It is important for search engine optimisation to help it get ranked on Google and other search engines. When publishing these keywords, take note that they should follow the set guidelines. There might be some characters that you are not allowed to use. You might get banned as well for trying to use sales phrases too much. Once they are live, check their statistics from time to time.

Understand that you won?t get rich overnight. Or even after a few weeks. A PPC campaign takes time so you need to be patient. Learn from an expert and don?t be too proud to follow some tips and guidelines being offered to you. Just be open to new ideas and it will get better.

Astrophile: 'Monster' stars are just misunderstood

Astrophile is our weekly column on curious cosmic objects, from the solar system to the far reaches of the multiverse

Objects: Four stars in the Tarantula Nebula
Characteristics: big, bright and seemingly impossible

Freakishly huge and uncomfortably bright, a quartet of stars sits huddled in the Tarantula Nebula, outcasts in a universe that says they shouldn't exist.

Nestled in the R136 star cluster, the giants are each around 300 times as massive as our sun. They're surrounded by more conservative neighbours, stars no heftier than 150 solar masses. According to generally accepted norms, that's as big as a star should be.

"The assumption of an upper limit of 150 solar masses has been central to our theory of star formation for a while now," says Sugata Kaviraj at Imperial College London. With no good explanation for their bulk, the stellar anomalies were quickly branded monsters.

Now a band of scientists says these impossible bodies are actually misunderstood. The monsters weren't born big, they simply grew up in a rough neighbourhood and reached outlandish sizes to survive violent clashes.

Monster mash

Sambaran Banerjee and colleagues at the University of Bonn in Germany developed a computer simulation that traced the evolution of a cluster akin to R136, star by star. The model revealed the interactions of more than 170,000 normal-sized stars packed closely together, including standard binary pairs in stable orbits.

In such a crowded environment, stability is short-lived. "The binary's pleasant, peaceful, predictable and periodic circular orbit is perturbed by passing stars, which are plentiful in this rich, dense cluster environment," says Kirk Borne of George Mason University in Virginia, who was not involved in the study.

Sometimes, stars in very close binary orbits would become so erratic that they would smash into each other and merge, giving rise to a monster.

These giants don't appear in every star cluster because cooking them up requires special conditions. The grouping must be dense enough for stars to be especially close, and young enough so that stellar winds haven't yet blown the giants down to standard sizes.

"These massive stars always have strong winds and lose mass rapidly," says Banerjee. "After about 1.5 million years the wind becomes particularly strong and the star enters what is called a Wolf-Rayet phase." By about 2 million years the star will have lost more than half of its mass and will be able to blend in with its normal neighbours.

Paul Crowther of the University of Sheffield in the UK led the project that first weighed the fearsome foursome in 2010. He thinks this is the best simulation done so far, and that the binary explanation is entirely plausible.

However, the results only show that these mergers could happen, not that they have to happen. It's possible, he says, that regular-sized stars managed to consume a lot of extra gas by being in the right place at the right time.

Either way, it's time to stop calling them monsters, says Banerjee, who prefers to think of the giants as "super-stars".

work: The Best Investment Property Holding Entity is the LLC

It is amazing how often I am asked by people starting in real estate investment: ?What type of corporate structure is best for owning investment property?. I hear that question more often than I am asked how to find tenants or how to finance the property. Here is some information that I have compiled and learned over the years.

Disclaimer: Right up front I need to remind everyone that I am not an attorney nor do I play one on television. You should seek competent legal advice in your area, regarding this topic. These details are simply what I have learned through reading, executing, and talking with attorneys.

Best entity for Investment Property

Although there are many different business entities (LLC, C-Corporation, S-Corporation, partnership), the easiest to set up and cheapest to maintain, for real estate investments, is an LLC (limited liability company). Additionally, an LLC is very flexible and can have any number of owners (technically called ?members?). Each member can own any percentage of the company (as long as the total equals 100%). Lastly, members can be other LLCs, corporations, and trusts. This flexibility allows you to customize the configuration to suit your tax situation and liability protection goals.

Tax Implications for the Investment Property LLC
C-Corporations pay taxes on profits generated by the corporation, first. The owners pay taxes again on the profits they receive as dividends. Although, S-Corporations avoid the corporate tax, their corporate structure and number/type of owners is severely limited (S-Corporations can only be owned by individuals, not LLCs or trusts). Fortunately, unlike corporations, LLCs do not pay any corporate tax. All profit and losses ?pass through? to the member?s tax returns at the percent that they own the company. This is especially helpful if you own multiple LLCs as the profit and losses from each roll up to your personal taxes (a loss on one can offset a profit on another).

Liability Protection for the Real Estate Investor
As the name implies, an LLC provides limited liability to its members, meaning that any liability created by the company is limited to the company. The members? personal assets are protected from all claims against the company. Partnerships and unincorporated businesses do NOT provide liability protection. It is critical that you protect your personal assets as a 2005 Congressional study stated: ?small businesses bear 68 percent of business tort liability costs?. A properly set-up and maintained LLC can protect the owner?s interests in the assets of an LLC from the owner?s personal creditors.

Setting up an LLC for your Investment Properties
I recommend that you consult with a qualified real estate attorney when you set up your first LLC (or purchase your first investment property). Pay them to establish the LLC on paper and with the state. Have them teach you what should/must be done on an annual basis to maintain both the legal entity of the LLC and the litigation protection of the LLC. This may cost up to $1000 per LLC. Some attorneys may offer a discounted price.

How Many Properties per LLC?
This is where a good attorney can weigh the liability protection versus the costs. Many advisors will tell you to set up one LLC per property. Practically speaking this is easy when you own 2-4 properties, but it will become increasingly cost prohibitive when you own 15 properties. Not only does it cost about $360 (in Minnesota, using BizFilings.com) to set up an LLC initially, but each year your CPA will charge you to prepare and file the tax return for each LLC (this costs me about $400 per LLC-you can imagine your tax bill if you had 15 LLCs!). Most real estate investors will put 3-5 properties in each LLC (grouping them based upon geography, age, liability risk, or equity position).

Moving your Properties into your LLC
A common misconception is that you must buy the investment property in the LLC?s name. Unfortunately, you would need to use commercial financing (with a 20% down payment) to have your LLC buy the property initially. A ?Quit Claim deed? is all that is required to legally transfer the property from your personal name to your LLC. The mortgage(s) will stay in your personal name and it will remain on your credit report, but you will gain the liability protection mentioned above. This Quit Claim deed process requires a simple one page document signed and notarized by all owners of the property and it is then mailed with the appropriate filing fees (about $50-75) to the County recorder where the property is located.

Property Management Considerations
Technically, each LLC should have its own checking account, corporate credit card, and Quickbooks file. Again, as above, this may be possible with a limited number of LLCs, but it can be overwhelming to think about 15 checkbooks, 15 corporate credit cards, and 15 LLCs signing leases and performing evictions. Many real estate investors will transfer their properties into ?ownership? LLCs which simply hold the properties. They will then set up a ?management? LLC that signs all leases, pays all bills (including mortgages), contracts for all repairs, and retains one or two corporate credit cards. To keep the liability protection intact, you should have a management agreement signed by both the ?ownership? and ?management? LLC.

Using the LLC
All the work and cost of establishing the LLCs can be wasted if a judge agrees with the lawsuit plaintiff, that the LLCs are just shells. Follow your attorney?s advice, but generally, you should hold meetings (and keep written minutes of the meeting) on a bi-annual to annual basis. You should record decisions and ?vote? on changes to the company. Lastly, have your attorney review your work annually to insure you are maintaining your legal protection in the event of litigation.
As you can see, an LLC has many benefits over other corporate entities (or no entity at all). Having an LLC for your real estate investment is an important step in providing protection for both your personal and corporate assets. Consider the creation and use of an LLC as important as learning how to find tenants.

Daily Kos: Gaming out Harry Reid's gambit

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) (R) is photographed as he talks to reporters about the senate's vote on debt ceiling legislation at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, August 2, 2011. Congress buried the specter of a debt default by finally passing a deficit-cutting package on Tuesday, but the shadow lingered of a possible painful downgrade of the top-notch American credit rating.  REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst

Setting the trap?

I don't think I'm out on a limb saying that Jon Huntsman Sr is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's Bain source. Okay, maybe it's junior, but in any case, the Huntsmans look like the likely culprits.

So this entire post is based on that informed speculation. If it definitely turns out it's not Huntsman or the other Huntsman, well, this is a fun game to play anyway.

So here we go:

Harry Reid is chatting with his old friend Huntsman Senior, who has just the craziest story to tell. You see, the Huntsmans have joined most of the country in deciding that Mitt Romney is a dick, or maybe they were pioneers in that sentiment (the Huntsmans have long known the Romneys). Heck, there may even be some behind the scenes church politics we're not privy to. But whatever the motivation, Senior has quite the story relayed by the guy who worked the finances at Bain Capital ... former managing director Robert C. Gay and current Huntsman business partner. How serendipitous!

It turns out, claims Huntsman, that Romney didn't pay taxes for a decade. What a ludicrous story! Who could believe it? And Huntsman doesn't want to go public with it.

Reid obviously wants to damage Romney, and knows this story would put the Republican nominee in a bind. If true, he can't release the taxes, but every day he refuses to release them is another day that Romney takes a hit with the voters.

So he knows he won't make the safe play and sit on the story.

Still, he's got something else to protect in addition to his source: his reputation. He's probably not worried about reelection at this point, not just because he's got four years until his next one in a state that is trending strongly Democratic, but because he'll be 76 then and may want to call it quits. He knows the media will crucify him for making such outlandish accusations without concrete proof because, you know, he's a Democrat and Democrats don't play dirty.

But he trusts Huntsman. But better yet?Huntsman is a well-known recognizable name with a great deal of cachet outside Republican crazy circles. There's a reason Junior was President Barack Obama's ambassador to China. So Reid is confident his accusations are true. But better yet, he knows that if the identity of his source is revealed, the Huntsman name will instantly add credibility to his claims and damage Romney even further. This isn't some random scrub, after all.

So he goes public and crosses his fingers that the Republicans will take the bait?if they ignore him, his gambit goes nowhere. No need to worry. They instantly ramp up the outrage meter from 0 to 11.

Now the biggest threat to Reid's credibility, other than to be proven wrong by having Romney release his taxes (which would certainly be a Phyrric victory for the GOP), would be having his source never revealed. If the mystery of the source is never solved, he'll have a perpetual cloud hanging over his good name?the possibility that he willfully disseminated a lie in order to smear his political opponents. While Republicans celebrate that kind of politics, it generally embarrasses liberals.

He needs his source revealed, so he starts dropping a hint here, another hint there. He lets the story simmer, one news cycle after another. He gets CNN's Dana Bash to vouch for his source. Eventually, he figures, people will figure it out, and when they do, the story will fully explode and he'll be vindicated.

Meanwhile, Romney will have spent weeks trying to fend off the tax return attacks, only to find himself in the tightest bind?wage a he-said, she-said battle against a man whose reputation he'll never equal, or cave on those tax releases. Either way he loses, Democrats win, Harry Reid carries the day.

And we promote Reid from Democrat of the Week, to Democrat of the Year.

ICANN's Domain Name Review: First gTLD Comments Due August 12

[Link: ICANN Unveils New gTLD Applicants for Brand Owner Review - Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP]

The Internet?s naming system is about to get a lot more complicated, and that?s a big deal for brand owners. Law firm Allen Matkins explains why in this video.

Key takeaways:

  • Formal objections can be filed in four categories: legal rights, limited public interest, community, and string confusion
  • Brand and trademark owners should review the list for names that are confusingly similar to their marks
  • Businesses can also submit comments on a specific application (an ?evaluation panel comment?), for example regarding the applicant?s technical or financial capability to run a domain name registry

If you want to file an objection, you?ve got until mid-January 2013. But if you?d like to submit an evaluation panel comment, you?ll need to act fast: the deadline is August 12, 2012.

TLD Transformation Underway (Baldwins l Intellectual Property):

?A rapid transformation of the internet landscape is underway. By ?Reveal Day?, 13 June 2012, ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) had received 1,930 applications for global Top-Level Domain names (gTLDs). While a few of these applications are for the same name, so that the actual number of new gTLDs will not be quite as high as 1,930, there will still be an enormous increase of gTLDs from the mere 18 that are currently used worldwide (the most common of which are .com, .org and .net).? ?The addition of potentially over 1,400 new gTLD?s will greatly expand ?real estate? on the Internet and could affect significantly the way that companies communicate with their clients. Brand owners should review the list of gTLD applications for strings that may be confusingly similar to their trademarks or domain names, and all businesses should review the list to determine whether a competitor or other party has applied for a general term in their field that may be important to their marketing, brand protection or other business strategies.? ?The initial application window recently closed. The list of applications offered a few surprises, a number of omens for the future ? and some important action items for brand owners who did not apply for a gTLD this time around? One surprise was the sheer number of applications. Originally, ICANN was anticipating 500 or so. In the end there were almost 2,000 (at $185,000 apiece!) The unexpected volume slowed down the application process, and will surely slow the review and approval process even more.? Read on>>

Filing an objection gives you the opportunity to have your objection considered by the panel reviewing the application. ICANN has established four bases for objecting to an application, which then initiates a dispute resolution procedure. Administered by three different dispute resolution bodies, the specific procedure for submitting a formal objection under a specific basis is outlined by each body.? Read on>>

ICANN Publishes List of Applications in gTLD Expansion Program (Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP):

?The current deadline for filing a formal objection is January 13, 2013. If an application is approved and any formal objections are overcome, the new gTLD will be delegated to the applicant. ICANN expects to begin delegating gTLDs to applicants after the deadline for filing a formal objection. ICANN has announced it has plans to open a second round of gTLD applications in the future. New ?Generic? Top-Level Domains Need a New Name (Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A.):

?? I continue to wonder about the viability of new TLDs on a practical level. For instance, did you know that .jobs has been a TLD since 2005? Have you ever surfed a .jobs website? How about a .pro site? Been to a .coop site? I didn?t think so. These generic TLDs have been around a while, and I assume each has made its own marketing push, but it seems to me that none of them have taken off. Perhaps the new TLD effort will finally shake us all out of our .com paradigm, but it is probably going to take major marketing efforts to do so.? Read on>>
