Run for God | Church Sports Outreach | Sports Ministry | Recreation ...

This is a guest post from Aimee Lind at Appleton Alliance Church in Appleton, Wisconsin.

When I started my job in January a lady approached me about wanting to do Run for God here at Alliance. Being a marathon runner myself I thought it was a fantastic idea. I truly believe that everyone can be a runner if they simply learn how to do it properly and I was definitely excited for the challenge.

In the past she had tried multiple running clubs through the church but had not had much success. We decided to offer the Run for God program because it was more than just running, it offered a Bible study portion as well.

I remember hoping and praying that we would get at least ten ladies to join the group. I was overwhelmed the first day when over 20 women showed up! That first day was so cool because each of the ladies went around and spoke about why they joined the group and what their fitness background was. The majority of the ladies had no previous running experience and the draw to the group was that they would be able to study the Bible and run and be held accountable in both areas.

The transformation that took place in so many of their lives was remarkable. The first week some of them could not even run for 90 seconds without stopping and then just last week 23 women were able to run for over 30 minutes and finish an entire 5K race!

The Lord definitely used this study to strengthen the ladies both physically & spiritually. It always amazes me how many correlations there are in the Bible between actual running and running the race of life. This study was a great way to tangibly see these correlations.
