Students from Israeli-held Golan return from Syria

(AP) ? The Red Cross says dozens of Druse Arab students from the Israeli-held Golan Heights who study in Syria's embattled capital Damascus are being evacuated home.

Spokeswoman Noora Kero says the Red Cross is coordinating with Syrian and Israeli authorities for some 100 students to enter Tuesday. Kero says parents requested an evacuation, worried for the safety of their university-age children because of clashes between government forces and rebels. Others are leaving Syria for summer vacation.

It's unclear how many Golan Druse are studying in Damascus.

Israel seized the Golan plateau from Syria in the 1967 Mideast war. There are some 20,000 Arabs in the Golan, members of the secretive Druse offshoot of Islam who retain close ties to Syria.
